How to Retire Young: A Millennial’s Guide

Congratulations on reading this! It means you have the desire to improve your life and perhaps retire early.

Two of my favorite questions used to be, "How do I become a millionaire?" and "How can I retire young?" I started asking these questions at age 19. Though I was young, maybe a bit naive, and faced some limitations, it didn’t stop me from trying.

Step 1: Start Asking the Right Questions

Many people struggle to earn their first million because they start with the wrong questions, like, "Can I really become a millionaire?" This kind of doubt can create excuses not to succeed.

Some people fail to achieve early retirement because they ask questions like, "Which company offers a good retirement plan?" While Google is known for having one of the best career paths, compensation packages, and retirement plans, not everyone has access to such opportunities. Instead, try asking the right questions.

"Employees look for security. Entrepreneurs look for freedom."

The first principle introduced to me was the Law of Cause and Effect. This law states that every effect has a specific cause. Our actions determine our outcomes.

It was a wild and maybe unrealistic dream, but I dreamt of rewarding myself with something extraordinary: to stop being an employee at age 25.

Step 2: Dream Big Dreams

After finishing university, I was employed, and it taught me a lot. My story would be incomplete without my experience in the corporate world. I had a nice job title and a reasonable salary, but I was sold on the idea of having time and financial freedom in my 20s.

We live in the greatest time of human history. Warren Buffet achieved his first billion at age 60, while Mark Zuckerberg became a millionaire at 22 and the world's youngest self-made billionaire at 23.

Both invested in "human capital."

Step 3: Find the Right Vehicle

What is a vehicle? It’s your leverage to achieve your dreams. It could be the company you work for or the one you’re developing. Many opportunities serve as good vehicles, but you need to understand the probability of success.

"Human capital" involves working on something that fulfills human desires by offering solutions to their needs or problems. Warren Buffet's wealth isn't just from the stock market; he invests in companies with consumable products and acquires companies, letting others run them based on demand.

Mark Zuckerberg started Facebook, now the world's largest social networking site, marketing platform, social media platform, human directory, entertainment app, and soon-to-be marketplace.

Investment? Go to Warren. Internet space? Go to Mark.

Relating to lesson number 3, having the right vehicle, did you know the internet also has affiliate marketing programs? If not for a fee, you need to learn it yourself.

To speed up your success, learn how to sell a product or service that many people are willing to use or consume. Look for a company that pays well and allows you to run the business with more flexibility. It's ideal if the company offers recurring income through repeat orders, giving you the chance for passive and residual pay.

You can also set up your own company or sell your talent if you have the expertise or drive to make it work.

My vehicle? I've tried Expedia's affiliate program, Google's Adsense program, and many others, but the best for me is network marketing or anything involving the internet or technology.
Step 4: Work with the Right People

I have always believed that I am victorious. Mindset is crucial because it was my only capital. I started with no significant financial capital, no experience, and no influential network, but I was driven.

The drive to win is your fuel to championship!

I was blessed to pick the right people to work with.

The best people to work with speak from the heart, are hungry to learn, have a strong desire to positively impact others, are not manipulative, blame less, and have a vision.

The key three people in speeding up your success include:

4.1 Yourself - Nothing works without your commitment.

4.2 Right mentors - Learn from their experiences to minimize mistakes and follow their guidance. Wanting to learn but not being open to advice doesn’t work!

4.3 Right team - Invest your energy in the right team. When your heart is sincere, filled with wisdom, and a love to serve others, you will attract the best people to support and work with you.

Eighty percent of your lifestyle is determined by the quality of relationships you have with those around you. The more people you know and the more people know you positively, the faster and closer you will be to success.

Step 5: Develop Your Reputation

Your reputation starts with your integrity, honesty, decisiveness, and ability to inspire and lead others.

How do you work when no one is watching you?

I value time, relationships, and work ethics. To achieve in life, understand self-discipline.

How do you work with others?

You can make mistakes, but without owning them, you will never grow.

How do you handle failures?

Are you persistent enough, or do you allow failure as an option?

Climb if necessary, for there is no shortcut.

My Journey to Early Retirement

Asking the right questions led me to dream bigger. Through the right vehicle and team, I found a business model that allowed me to create a sustainable income. Building a reputation in the industry by helping and taking care of customers, and committing to adding value to people's lives, has made my journey more sustainable.

I'm still using the same notes I used when I was 19, which helped me resign at 25. I have been self-employed for three years now, and it has been an exciting and extraordinary adventure.

Seek excellence within yourself and let it shine outward, leading to a wonderful journey.

Spread the positivity!
