Why are you reading this?

You are here because maybe the title is intriguing to you? Or because there is just something in your life now that you are not happy about, a problem that is looking for a solution.

You are bold and brave to be thinking about self-employment.

I am not really against employment. If you would offer me a job that is related to motivating or creating strategies, I might consider it. :-) Our society needs it to function but at some point, we may need to make decisions for our own future.

There are people who are scared to fail in life, but I think we should be scared too on succeeding at something that is irrelevant to our purpose in life.

I have a few questions for you that may guide you...

Who is important to you? What matters to you?

If I may guess your answer may include - your family, your friends, your dreams, your passion, yourself.

But are you giving time, creating memories, exerting effort or expressing yourself in that area?

You are not happy at what you are getting because it’s not really what you are wanting to get.

I understand that we need to make sacrifices to be a good provider, that is noble and I respect you for that.

But if you have the chance and the choice, aim to still be effective and productive in doing what you truly want.

Is what you are doing now leading you to where you are going?

It might be more difficult to shift later. When so many times and so many opportunities were already missed. And you are already in a situation that it’s better to stay than to change the path.

Hold on! You do not have to immediately decide to stop there but what is your back up plan?

If you want to be self-employed, don’t wait to acquire the insights, the skills. Develop yourself and be ready when you are there.

I have seen people quitting employment without the ability needed to survive at self-employment.

So question # 1 was asked to know your purpose. And # 2 was to know if it’s aligned to where you are going, your purpose and direction need to be aligned.

What're the benefits of being self-employed?

Story:

Person A earns a salary of $1000 monthly but spends on gas, meals, clothing and other expenses to go to work every day.

Person B  could potentially earn $1000 monthly. He saves on gas, meals and other expenses since he decided to work from home. He meets client outside his home office 2-3 times a week.

Now let us discuss the benefits;

Savings

Being home-based allows us to cut some expenses.

Flexibility

Since Person B is not driving to work every and chose his own work location and timing, he can possibly avoid the stressful traffic jams.

What’s the disadvantage of being self-employed?

No work no pay.

Just like employment, self-employment is also no customer means no business.

No effort no production.

That’s given. You create output from having an input.

This is a fun and exciting world.

It’s not easy and it’s not for everyone. So don't quit being employed unless you have the discipline to make it work. It’s not enough to be just hardworking now, because you’ve been working hard already. It’s about using your hard work and true potentials. If you think that you have the gut, the skill, the talent, the product or the idea to start - then go and follow your dreams.

If your why is stronger, the how is easier.
